The Silver Lining

So it turns out there is a silver lining to having bed bugs.

As you can see below, I sleep in a loft.  It’s about seven feet up.  The other day, I woke up early and was still pretty groggy.  So when I stepped on the ladder to climb down, I didn’t position my weight quite right and it slipped out from underneath me.

I tried to put my other foot down, but missed, making me careen backward off the loft.  I tried to grab my bed but couldn’t get a hold of anything.  This sent me spinning through the air.  In the split second I was falling, all I could think of was how bad it was going to hurt when I hit the hardwood floor.

It was dark.  I was still half-asleep.  My roommates were all in bed.  And I was going to be lying there on the hardwood with half a dozen broken bones.  And then—POOF!!!

I landed right on top of the huge pile of fluffy plastic bags filled with clothes.  It didn’t even hurt—at all.  Didn’t even knock the wind out of me.

I sat there a minute.  Did a mental check to make sure I was still all intact.  And then, being wide awake now, got up to take a shower.

When your writing isn’t going anywhere, or writer’s block is coming on, make sure you keep writing.  Sorta like living out of plastic bags—no matter how bad things get, if you just keep writing, eventually something good will come out of it.  There will be a silver lining.  It may not save your life, but it will sure feel like it!

I'm glad you survived the fall, it just wouldn't be the same with out you!

I bet you don't mind having those plastic bags now. By the way love the stick figure example.
